In wartime Washington D.C., a severe housing shortage leads to a hilarious and heartwarming arrangement. A retired bachelor, Benjamin Dingle (Charles Coburn), sublets half his apartment to a charming working woman, Connie Milligan (Jean Arthur). When a handsome soldier, Sergeant Joe Carter (Joel McCrea), needs a place to stay, Dingle cleverly invites him to share the other half. What follows is a delightful battle of wits, romance, and mistaken intentions as Connie tries to maintain her independence while navigating her growing feelings for Joe under one crowded roof.
