Marilyn Monroe : The Final Days (2001)

Nearly 40 years after Marilyn Monroe's death halted production on 20th Century Fox's light comedy Something's Got To Give, this celebration of the ultimate screen goddess offers viewers the world premiere of the 37-minute reconstruction of the Hollywood icon's final film. It is one last look at a film that might have been - and a star who will live forever on screen.

Using state-of-the-art digital technology, footage was painstakingly restored to its original CinemaScope splendor. Arranged as it would have appeared on the big screen, the film reveals the sweet and always stunning screen performance of Monroe playing the part of a wife and mother. Combined with never-before-seen make-up and hair tests, photographs from famed photographer George Barris and interviews with those closest to her during her final days, this two-hour special reveals the tragic last months in the life of Marilyn Monroe.

Produced with the cooperation of the Marilyn Monroe Estate, this documentary candidly discloses Marilyn's battle with the studio and director George Cukor over the creative direction of the film. It also chronicles her personal struggles with her physical and psychological health which resulted in her chronic absences from the set. As production crumbled without its star, something had to give...and tragically, on August 5, 1962, it was the life of Marilyn Monroe, dying of an apparent drug overdose and bringing the final chapter of the film to a close - until now.
